Volunteers are needed to take pictures of the dogs, post them on 800 save a pet, give them a ride to our local vet for and exam and annual shots, and sometimes help bath, and socialize them. I could imagine that the family may not be able to afford the surgery, and so as a result, they are giving him up for adoption. I know Laurie...I just can't get this puppy's face out of my head...he is absolutely no chance at this horrible place...:( :( :( I guess we need to put the blame where needed and that is with the owners of this dog... and of course, the pet store where this dog was purchased...:mad: and this poor innocent dog will have to pay the price because of it...it is so unfair....breaks my heart. Answer: April Jean: Do you know if this dog's medical records were also turned in with the dog? It would be very helpful to rescues if they knew the extent of his hip problems. Does anyone have anyway to get in touch with the original owners of this dog? Please read Jill's response from the other thread: Has anyone found a way to contact the former owners? If nothing more, they could give you the vet's information, and the vet would probably tell you (or a volunteer, whoever calls) once the vet knows that the animal has been surrendered to a shelter. In fact, you never know, the vet may actually take the dog and do surgery at a discount for a rescue (if it is a surgery that is needed and/or the vet is capable of performing that surgery). Vets really hate to see their patients dumped in shelters. If you are in touch with any of the volunteers, see if they can sneak a peek at the paperwork that came in with him. Until more is known about the extent of his condition, it would be difficult for someone to commit to him because of the possibility of a big expense, so get in touch with any point of contact that you have at the shelter and see if they can get more info somehow. They may even know the vets in the area and they could call the ones who are most likely to have had him as a patient. Our animal control officer in TX found Homer's vet by calling the vet across the street to see if he was a patient. If they know the owner's name, that would help in such a search.
