Question:
:dog: Carolina Dog....the personal experiance
Now I call it the personal experiance cause i have owned many dogs, how ever is a huge difference between 'dogs' and dingos that i have noticed.
Now maybe its just my dog, maybe its just puppy stuff, but hey this is A PERSONAL experiance, and not a scientific break through study for those who may want to arguee.
From the day we took pepper home she was instantly attached, (she was 4 months old), Separation axienty was very prominent as we spent the whole weekend with her. (instead of begining the crate training) lol. Carolina dogs as i have descovered thourgh my own research into the breed they are VERY much a pack animal and do not do well alone for long periods, and they bore rather easily. Toys that i have found most intertaining are Brain Buster toys as i call them....not chew toys but iinteractive toys that makes her think. Granted she still LOVES her mamoth bone ( which i would recommend to anyone with a dingo/dingo mix, its in there nature to Chew bones) When i say chew bones i mean REAL bones, pepper has never cared for nylobones or any other plastic wanna-be bone, it has to be the real thing. rawhide is not a big winner either, Bully stick and pigs feet and thing of that nature are really what they not just want but need, you give a dingo a platic bone and leave the house be prepared to buy new sofa cushions when you return. as for rawhide (under supervision of course)The ONLY rawhid i have found to keep her attention ironicly enough are the DINGO compressed rawhide bones that have the meat in them.
Pepper is generally a ver freindly dog unless confronted with a onslought of kids 5+ running at her......btu that would even make me a lil bit growly lol. she is shy of strangers coming into the house unless i shake there hand upon entry. Pepper is a Very fast learner and picked up high five, paw, side and roll over all in the same 30 min session and is 100% at them, so fun to show off lol. She is working on crawl, and only took 4 days to understand wait and stay. the first day we had her she learned sit and down and come was jsut natural......after a 5 min lesson showing her it meant come to me. She is very Loyal to me much more than my fiance, no matter how much she feeds or walks her, but she still listens to her.
Not really a water dog but can be with time, after a MONTH of working with pepper she will finaly retrive in the water 75% of the tiem and 0% if it goes out to deep. Retriveing is NOT natrual to dingos as it is labs and other breeds and must me taught, fortunatly they pick it up in a couple of weeks, in private...still working on with distractions. The game the IS natural to Dingos is TUG, and before i get hit with you should never play tug.....tough love you raise you kid up your way i'll do it mine. pepper is a very tug friendly dog and only got nasty while playing with another dog once in 2 months of tug wars at the park and never once with me. If you have a true hold on your FRIENDSHIP (notcie i don't use the word ALPHA) then tug is not an issue...I do not TRY to portray and Alpha status but after 4 dogs it comes kinda natural......but my beliefs in training are not what we are discussing here are we lol......if you play tug with a dingo and YOU LOSE the dog will always bring it right back to you.....obviously not being dominate....otherwise they would run. Its just a game to them and nothing more.
The energy level of a dingo is prolly the best out of all athletic dogs. Granted my pepper is only 6 months old but in research and talking with a breeder i will stand true to this, but ONLY because the dingo (Carolina Dog) is laid back all of the time, However when brought with a task or a job or an active activity can give even the most hyper BC a run for there money. But becuase of there laid back attitude they are great house dogs they don't require alot of things most dogs need, AKA many walks, and TONS of exercise. You BC owners can vouch for this....don't take a BC out for a long walk and give it some run time for three days in a row and you have a 60 lb ball ofhellish energy on you hands...however a dingo will still just sit on the porch contient.....hence the Nick Name Carolina Porch Dog, lol. But don't let the nickname fool you they are quite a fierce competator on the agility course and even in the Disc Dog arena.
Feel free to ask any questions about these incredible breed and i will do my best to answer them from both my knowledge and my experiance :)

Ok now that i've had a break here i go again. intresting fact 35% of all unknown dog fathers in shelters are Carolina Dogs. ( so some researchers say)
The Carolina Dog, from My experiance with Pepper.
The personality traits that are listed in various research studys match Pepper to a T...no variation at all except for a few minor details.
First off lets hit the barking thing.....dingos don't bark..persay.....they whine yelp. and i would MUCH rather have Pepper Bark lol. Its high piched and very annoying and is the leading factor to many being put in shelters. Via the reasons below.
Carolina dogs are VERY social and do not do well alone. They perfer to be with people or other dogs. So be prepared for a long, long LONG training period for there separation anxitey. If you live inf an apartment even though carolina dog do well in that setting as well, make sure you'll have no neighbors for at least 2 weeks plus....or to the affect of them NOT being home during the hours you will be gone while the training is takeing place. A simple 'oh it won't bother me' will NOT work trust me they are loud and its not a bark, and won't trigger bark collars. I could still Hear (very faintly) Pepper from outside my apartment 50 feet away IN my truck. So word to the wise.
Ok alot of people ask me does pepper cover her poop. Yes and no....she is spayed and that has a lot to do with it, female dingos cover there poop when in heat, and so being spayed...you see my point however i do catch her doing this.
They are very loyal pets, yet VERY hard headed. Pepper tends to see how far she can push before being corrected. So the training regime has had to be altered to correct that lol. They are deff. not a First time dog owners dog...they are a lil cooky and once they know how far they can get they will take advantage of it everytime. But not to the point of a "dominance game" more so just to do what they want, however a frim no and come, or leave it and she is always back at my side, waiting for my instruction.
Question you must ask yourself are you ready for a 45-65 lb lap dog? because that is what you will have, the Carolina dog is a very snuggly dog however at bed time it is a nessicity to not allow them on the bed. They easliy pick this up and pepper from day one would not curl up to me even on the couch unless invited.....instead she'd crawl under it and nap with me.
The Crate -
If you use a crate for a carolina dog its should be a sturdy one of course, and have the ability to be covered on the sides and top they prefer there dens to be dim. I use a Wire crate and cover the top and two sides with towels....I came in once and she had pulled the towles off and through the crate wires..I Used a loud no pulled her out of the crate took everyuthing out and put her back in it for 25 mins and she hasn't once detroyed her crate) Also it is recomended that you use a crate pad for they will dig up any kinda towel, or blankets you may put down in stead and then you end up cleaning up a crate constantly. This behavour come from hiding toys/bones. another thing you can expect.
Remember this breed is realativly new as a breed, not as a species. Breed meaning domisticated. They are direct desendants from wild american dingos. They are easily domesticated and once again the nick name porch dog pops up cause that is how many people in the southern states first "owned" Carolina Dogs....they just thoguht they where strays and feed it keeping them outside.....much like people do "barn Cats".
They are not aggresive, but a lil wary of strangers, when their owners is not present....very alert and great Alarm dogs.....unlike the watch dog, they will seldom attack a "burgler" but merly do there whiney barely bark thing which would wake most people out of comas.
I'll continue as pepper grows and answer any questions to the best of my ability.
:D This has diffently been a learning experiance for me lol:D
Just think 7 months ago I had no clue what a carolina dog was lol:eek:

Thank you so much for posting! I'm always interested in independant breeds, pariah breeds, and such. I grew up with Huskies so I know all about the independence, lol. My other best doggy buddy is a very independant beagle. I would love to have a Basenji, a Canaan dog, or a Carolina dog. Huskies will always be in my heart too. I love reading personal experience on such breeds though. Thank you very much.
