couriousity wolf hybrids

Question:
i was just courious there seems to be alot of hostility toward wolfhybrids on this board and i was wondering why and where you get your information from as far as "most states banning them " which is not true in fact most states allow wolf hybrids .. alot of them regulate them but they technically fall under the exotics rule and you wouldent have an unregistered exotic . Also all this about them being dangerous .. well so are pitbulls and rottis and gsd etc . not to be mean i'm not meaning to be argumentative but i am courious as to where your hostility comes from and why .. thoose of you with issues have you interatced with a bonified wolf or wolf hybrid before . and techinally as far as gentics they can find not differnce between a wolf /wolfhybrid and your common pet dog . and o.k. we still have a ways to go but before you deceide to discriminate an entire group of dogs rember just like we do qith people every individual is diffrent . some wolves and wolf hybrids are the sweetest dogs you will ever meet , some are high agressive dogs some just have bad owners like any other breed so your reasearch and make sure they are right for you and check with real reputable breeders and people who have them and care for them as companions and parts of there famliy . i do understand there are alot of stupid people breeding "wolf hybrids " or what there calling one and stupid owners or just uneducated owners who do not know what there getting into but really any dog can be dangerous in the wrong hands or sometimes simpley uneducated hands . Sorry for my bit . thanks to any with informed constructive comments .oh if you want info on my sorces e-mail me privately and i will give you any or all (long list ) .

Answer:
First of all, let's not bring pitties and rotties and GSD's into a debate about wolf hybrids. HUGE difference. You don't want us calling your wolf hybrids dangerous, then please don't get our backs up by calling our dogs dangerous. They are not, it's the same thing you just said about irresponsible owners.
I have no problem with wolf hybrids, though I do not agree with them being purposely bred. I have known several and have found them to be okay. They can be unpredictable, which is one reason I would never personally own one. I don't think they should be bred for many reasons, a huge one being behavior. You mix a dog and a wolf and the behavior/body language changes. You can't read them as well, therefore can't understand them as well. And yes, I do have personal training experience with them. There was a breeder down the street from my stepmom and she let me work hers all the time.
I agree that it truly depends on the owner. We have a hybrid who comes to the dog park we sometimes go to. Sweet dog. The owner took a LOT of time to understand wolves before he got the dog. The problem with hybrids is that, like any other tough breed, they are too easily available. Just anybody can breed them to make a quick buck and then they fall into the wrong hands. They absolutely can be dangerous. Because of the behavior issue I just mentioned, if someone who doesn't know a lot about wolves gets one, they can be very dangerous. Does this mean that they should be banned? No. If you watch my youtube videos you'll know how I feel about BSL. I despise it. But, I do think that with hybrids stricter laws need to be in place so that these animals do not become the stereotype.
I haven't seen a hybrid discussion here in a while, so I'm not sure why you think everyone here is hostile towards them. I think there is even a member or two that has them. Newer ones, though, so I couold be wrong.

Answer:
a wolf is not domesticated, it's a wild animal. it has a higher prey drive and IS more dangerous than a regular domesticated dog, no matter the breed of dog.
generally, it's the people who can not handle the proper training/care to own a wolf hybrid. it's a lot harder to domesticate a wolf and make it part of your family than it is to go to the pound and get a dog already domesticated.
wolves are wild and should be left as such imo.

Answer:
Wild animals will always maintain their wild instincts.
Even looking at the dog, completely, 100% domesticated for many, many, many years, yet a dog will naturally defend its own or itself. Which means it can bite. They are dogs, thats what they do. Now take a wolf that hasn't had domestication and put it in a similar situation and there is a TON more wild instinct to come out. Too unpredicatable.
Look at Siefried and Roy who have domesticated their wild tigers(albeit they have a lot of experience doing it). One got attacked by one of their own and he said, he is a wild animal and will always be. It was not the tigers fault.

Answer:
Most people have problems with pure bred dogs and can't deal with them so how do you want them to deal with a wild animal like a wolf. It's like putting a gun in a child's hand. It's an accident waiting to happen.
You have many dogs that look like wolves without the unpreditability of one.Get a sable GSD or a malamute and you're pretty close to one.
Actually, aren't they bred to them,to get an hybrid.
Maybe,I should go down to the canal and make a pet out of the gator that lives there, lol!!!.

Answer:
Well this topic has crossed my boyfriend and I various times.
Wolf hybrids are EXCELLENT dogs. They are not attackers are some may belive so, you have to PROVOKE them for them to do something. These dogs are stalkers, territorial and will follow a stranger instead of running up and poucing. You CANNOT chain them ever, and must have a 8 foot fence for a dog run or they will get out. These dogs must be shown everything, meet everyone in their first year (puppy). This teaches them the 'good' people, and whats right (not chasing cats, horses, etc

Answer:

Wolf hybrids are not dogs, they are wolves. They are not good pets for the average person, to say they make excellent dogs is very misleading.

Answer:
Wolfs are not domesticated therefore are not like a pittbull a rotti or a GSD. Those 3 dogs are domesticated pets. wolfs live out int he woods by my house. They are not pets at all. It will take 1000's of years to get them to where we have the dog now. and dogs are not even 100% domesticated. Like some one else said it is like putting a gun in a childs hand. They are unpredictable. And can and will fight if need to. Just like any other dog. But wolfs still know that they can do alot of damage and will do alot of damage.
Also no they are not dogs. Its nt good to call them dogs as they are hybirds. in the wrong hands they can be very dangerous. Why not just stick to the domesticated dog. you want somthing thta looks like a wolf, get a husky or malamute.

There is a reason why the regulations regarding owning, selling, breeding, exist in each state.
A lot of the "wolf" hybrids we get around here are actually Husky crosses. I guess it appeals to some to claim ownership of a wolf.
