Kinda bummedQuestion:For the past 3 days Dana has not moved much. She has just layed in a chair. She is eating and going out, but very lazy. I just dread trying to make that decision. Answer: I'm sorry I'm not up-to-date on Dana's condition. Has she been ill? Other than the listlessness what is giving you the feeling you may need to make a decision soon? I'm just trying to better understand the situation. Answer: paying attention in the dark as well kind regards Ashley Answer: Me too. Could it be a change in the weather? Is she hurting? Answer: Honestly, nothing major, but simply shes 9, and all of a sudden very lazy. I HOPE I am over reacting, but I guess the point of my post is when do you when its time? Thats the problem, she loves the cooler weather, but all of a sudden she has NO activity. Shes eating well, and pooping. Answer: We all get lazy Dobermom....heck I go through it at least once a week. Maybe Dana just needs a little down time. As long as she is eating and pooping and has no signs of pain I would not worry too much about it. Could it be that Dana has backed away now that Chyna is there to stay? Answer: I honestly dont think its a Chyna thing. Chyna is fine with Dana, never even considers a challenge. Even a friend has asked me about Danas activity level. Hopefully this is all for nothing and Dana is going to be my 28 year old Dane! Answer: It might be a good time to do a total body function blood panel and a urinalysis on her just to make sure everything is as it should be. There's a number of things that can cause low energy, but I wouldn't speculate until you see the blood work and urinalysis results. As far as when do you know it's time. To me, it's a quality of life issue. One thing I'd find helpful is making a list of all the things Dana loves to do when she's feeling good. Once you start to see that the list is getting severely compromised, then it's really time to evaluate quality of life. I like to make these lists before the dogs are already very ill so it's not clouded by my emotions. It's really Dana's list, not yours. Moo did a post not that long ago that included some of the best advice on this subject I've seen. Hopefully, she'll read this thread and can post it again or you can pm her for it. It's really worth reading. Don't forget we're here for you and the majority have been right where you are. We will help you through. Answer: i lost my first dog to cancer when i was 8 it left a impression on me i dont even think i can put in words when it comes to this subject. trust me when the time comes you will know if you put your dogs needs before your own. i dont think i can explain it to you alot of times its very personal and depends alot on the relationship between you and your dog. i can say if the dog is in pain or the quality of life is not there blah blah but its when enough is enough all those things are important but some how words really fail to explain it to you maybe there are others who can explain it better lol i have had to much wine anyway. all that being said i sincerly wish that time has not come yet and i agree wih deb kind regards Ashley |
