I just need to rant! (neighbor dog trouble, LONG)Question:1 Attachment(s) This started earlier this year (about April-May), when a large golden sized long hair brown dog showed up in our yard. About once a week every week after that the dog continued to be in our lawn and about the third time he had brought a similar short hair black dog with him (I say he for both, as both have leg lifted:no: !). Shortly after that, about 5 weeks in they showed up in the wrong neighbors lawn and they called the catchers. Well, heres the lay down. Both unneutered male dogs at the time were supposedly only 5 months (looked like 10 to me!) and nether had EVER been vaccinated nor had they been listened:mad: . There owner, you can't reason with her! She has been picked up before for misdemeanors and abuse, and recently it appears as if she has ether children or grandchildren as there is a child's swing set and push car in the front lawn. Having said that, after the dogs where picked up they had not been back in our lawn for a littler over a month, but they soon returned even larger than before:eek: . So it seems to me (and of coarse a little scanning of local classifieds), they are Newfoundland and lab crosses. That time they where behaving the worst, as the brown one left one heck of a plop in our flower garden!!!! We put cat litter on it and hoped the worst was over but about two weeks later they not only returned and left another large wet plop, but I now know for sure, they where the cause of Jinjo's flea problems, because every day after that they where in our lawn and every day Jinjo's scratching was worse:( , but the day after taking him to the vets the dogs stopped coming for a while and he got better until a week later when just the brown one returned, and he was scratching again. Fortunately that bout of scratching didn't last long and the dogs had been gone for about a 3 weeks, and Jinjo seemed to me to have no more problem at all:bow: . About 2 weeks ago I also noticed while driving by there house to drop things off to another neighbor (the dogs are kept in a large chain kennel) that only the brown dog was there. But I knew it would happen again that there retarded owner would let them loose, and sure enough, on Sunday the brown dog was back:mad: ! Standing right there just off our porch. My father ran to the gun cabinet to get out a hand size BB gun, but by the time he got there the dog was off down the road. All though this situation may not sound bad to any of you, you have to experience the torture they have brought to my living space to see the damage. Jinjo is now scratching badly again, these dogs (if the black one is even still there) are not taken care of at all:no: , in living here for more than 30 years we have NEVER had flea's until they showed up! I bet there poo is infested with worms as about 4 weeks ago we found a foreign poo with a LARGE tape worm in it, and the worst part of this is, I am no longer able to get the beautiful show bitch I so badly want:( ! Because nether of these dogs where ever neutered, they pose a great risk to any eventual show dog I get. They do have yet to show ANY signs of being vicious though (brown dog likes play with anything he finds). And of coarse this also means NO SHEEP!!! First my mother gives up on chicken due to bird flu scare, and now I'd have to worry about these dogs terrorizing sheep (as if the coyote's weren't enough to think about), I can really see these dogs chasing sheep for hours on end. Well, all I can do now is one of two things, call the dog catchers endlessly till the owners are PO'd, or, try and nab the brown dog (leader FOR SURE:rolleyes: ), and truck him off. Of coarse, before he got trucked off I'd give him a total shave (that dog is so matted its pathetic!) and then I'd dowse him with flea killer:cool: . But of coarse if I had things even more my way, he'd then be taken to the furthest no kill shelter I know of right now (its one that only takes in dogs), remove any ID tags first but leave the collar if there, and tell them I found him just down the road from the shelter. So, all I can say for now, is that I can only hope the owners did the right thing by giving up the black dog and thats why I'm not seeing him:bow: , and that when it comes time to get another dog for me, I can get my dream girl and not have to worry about roaming males! (with Jinjo's temperment at the moment, I don't think it would be right to bring in another male) Sorry for being so long, but thanks for listening, I just really had to blow off some steam:o , but of coarse to someone other that my mother who has definitely heard enough of my ranting. *I am going to try and use attach to post a photo. I took it second to last encounter a few weeks ago. Sorry for the quality, the closes camera in reach was my film one, and even though I was using a telephoto lens, I was upstairs and shooting out a window.* Answer: So the dog catchers gave back the dogs even after they had been roaming around....did they at least give them a warning? In a lot of states there's a leash law, and even if there is not you cannot just let your dog roam around and trespass on other people's property. If the dog is in that bad of shape (worms, fleas, matted coats) I would find it hard to believe the dog catchers would give the dog back without staying on top of the owners to get these issues fixed.... At any rate, I hope you get the issue solved! Nothing worse than having unknown dogs with unknown diseases/health issues, roaming around in your yard! Answer: You know, I thought that the catchers would be tougher too. Apparently however, all they did was force them into getting the dogs shots and licensing them and they got to go home after that. From what I've been told, around here if you call the dog catchers but the dogs got home after you called theres nothing they can do but slap them on the wrist:no: , But when it comes to picking up dogs, as long as the owners pay the impound fine they get to take there dogs back. Now in the case that the catchers get the dog they usually have a 24hour (unless the weather is good and not a lot of dogs come in) hold before they transfer them to a shelter for adoption. But if you take the dog to a shelter the shelter must hold the dog for 7days then it goes up for adoption (after a hoarding incident, most all our shelters have became no kill). I really wish I had the freedom to do more for these poor dogs:( , and I must say I'm not the only neighbor mad at the owners for what they let them do. Answer: im sorry for your problems but the dog looks pretty...lol Can you all get together and go to this owner with a complaint and then call he animal control or even the police. You may want to call the police just on the account that she was charged for abuse and now you say she has a kid. That could be a violation of something. then the dogs would be taken and she couldnt get em out. Or maybe you could talk to the lady and ask if you can help with her dogs and do some ovedience work with em and get flee stuff so thye get better. Or you could keep the dogs in your yard somehow till the animal control gets there. Answer: Most of the neighbors around here keep to themselves, but we have talked to one who lives directly across from them and they are just as mad. Now, from what I've been told (I really wouldn't want to say something incorrect), her abusive problems happened in the past and she was put on meds so I don't think theres much more anyone could do there. And as I said before, theres really no major talking sense into her (think of someone you know who's very ignorant, she's that type). I have thought actually several time of trying to help train and clean the dogs maybe when there here, but thay are like cockroaches:eek2: !!! I am going to try and lure them the next time though, but the last time one was here (the brown dog) as I said, ran right away just by seeing somebody watching him. I wish the people around her where more the type you could talk with, but sadly there far from ever average. One neighbor who grew up here was even recently charged for stolen guns and possessing pot!! Yeah, I love the location, but really miss big time in other areas (wont even mention the "no high speed" Internet problems, that being an entire other thread:eek: !). Answer: Why would your husband go to the cabinet and reach for the gun? Answer: it was her dad and i think it was just a bb gun to shoot at the ground to scare it away, make noise so they wouldnt come back... |
