Dog bites!!

Question:
 Missy, the Border Collie bit me yesterday and I'm not telling!! I was sitting with my Mom when one of her neighbors dropped by with her two grandchildren. Missy [out of character] ran to the door growling & barking. I was afraid that when I opened the door she would frighten the children so I tried [by voice command] to move her behind me. She didn't budge so I put my hand gently to the side of her neck to move her and she BIT me on the thumb!! I made an "excited utterance" ... asked the neighbor to wait while I moved the dog and then lured Missy away from the door. She was fine after they were inside the house, wagging her tail and happy to see them! :p The reason I'll never tell that she bit me is because my son [who owns Missy] would punish her even though I have told him a bzillion times that they have to be punished on the spot or they don't understand why they are being punished!! :( She has gotton grumpy since she is older [6 years old] and I should've known better than to handle the situation the way I did! She is also trained to respond to hand commands .... maybe it was the way I moved my hand? So ... it will be our little secret! Noone saw her do it except The Toto and she won't tell!! We think our Yorkies are spoiled? They aren't spoiled ... MISSY is the most spoiled dog I have ever seen!!! She sulks like a child when she doesn't get her way ... responds [usually] when you tell her anything and is the smartest dog I have ever seen!! Just can't understand why she would bite "Nonnie" who wouldn't harm a hair on her head ... usually ... wanted to smack her ... but didn't!! ;)

Answer:
Missy was probably "working." Working dogs like Border Collies take their jobs very seriously. She may be sensitive to the fact that your Mom isn't well and probably shouldn't be disturbed. My Sheltie, Lucy, was very protective of my husband, Herb. When he died, at home, and the undertaker came to take him, she tried so hard to get in that hearse with him! The undertaker was a dear friend who had recently lost his own Sheltie and Lucy's actions reduced him to tears. I will never forget that little dog with her tail between her legs, slowly following that hearse down our long driveway to the road.
Pogo never snaps....UNLESS....you put your face right next to his, and then he WILL snap at you. Don't know why. So I just tell all the kids and anyone else not to put their faces near his face. No problem.
Higgins gets ALL excited when we are going out the front door to go someplace and races around frantically yipping and NIPPING at my ankles! Doesn't actually bite, but I let him know it is unacceptable. I think it is just the excitement. Bet that might have been why Missy bit you.
We just need to remember that they are dogs. And dogs, even the best of them, will sometimes react to a situation by biting. As long as they don't do it habitually, we can usually cope with it.
I hope the bite wasn't too serious and that it heals quickly. Puppy kisses coming your way to salve the wound.

Answer:
Yes, I think if they are trying to protect the house and are focused on that particular activity, anything out of the ordinary, or anything that may startle them will make a border collie go into automatic 'defense mode.' That's so sweet that you ain't tellin'! :)

Answer:
Your secret is well kept here! :)
Now if there was a " BOW LINGUAL DOG INTERPRETER" in the house, you would of known what Missy was thinking. No Kidding, there is such an item, costing ONLY $70. Something for the "stocking" at Christmas time.
What will they come up with next?

Answer:
" BOW LINGUAL DOG INTERPRETER" ... getting one!! I'd like to know what Toto is thinking ... or maybe I wouldn't? Could be fun!! :) Thanks for all the input ... it's probably all partly true. Fortunately, she didn't break the skin but did leave a mark that will take a while to be rid of! Thanks for the puppy kisses! That heals quicker than most anything I can think of! She has always been such a sweetheart it really surprised me! She is really protective of people she cares about!!! ;)

Answer:
FWIW, the Bowlingual is more of a gimmick than anything. I don't think it's too accurate, but it may be a cool toy to play with:

But if you really want one, it's only around $40 now:

Answer:
:) Looks like we're going to get the TWIN PAK models for this house, about $75, :D Like you say Fasteddie, its sounds like a fun toy ! Maybe by Christmas the price will drop even more.
I wish I could come up with some gimmick that could fill my bank account so I could retire sooner ! :D

Answer:
Heheh, let us know how well it translates if you do get it! :)

Answer:
The mic unit that attaches to the dog collar looks too heavy & bulky for our 5 lb. girls to wear. They work on the concept of the Magic-8 Ball for dog barks, its a fun gadget. I'm gonna wait for a $9.95 tv special before I got any. :)
Besides, our girls just stare at us as if we were suppose to KNOW what they're thinking! Thats a challenge in itself ! :D

Answer:
Yoda does that all the time. Looks at me like, "Hey you, are you stupid or something? Don't you know what I want?" many, many times. I think they give us more credit than we deserve... :P

Think I will have to wait until someone with a Yorkie that weighs over 4 lbs to try it!! Or ... I could put that in the Border Collie's Christmas stocking ... I would love to know what Missy is thinking!!! ;)

Answer:
If you want to see a "unique" soft dog carrier, that serves as a coat, lead, and carrier, go to this site. When I saw it I laughed and laughed. :) Couldn't picture our yorkies in that gadget, altho it might be handy for some. Our girls don't weigh much so it could come in handy I suppose. :D

We already have the PouchPup when they were smaller.
As for the mic around the collar, it wouldn't work with us either, they wear a harness also.

That's hysterical ... just sling her over your shoulder!! I have a front carrier that she likes but is bulky for me ... wear it anyway if we are out for any long distance walking ... whatever makes her comfortable!! Yorkie people are so anxious to please!! :p Her alltime favorite is just a tote bag ... has a flat bottom and I just tuck her favorite fleece blanket in and let the corners hang out ... hold it open on the floor and tell her "kennel up" and she will leap in and it's beyond me how she does it but she throws her little butt around and lands in it butt first!! It's tooo funny! She loves it because she can look out the top or if she gets shy, scared or tired she ducks down inside and hides or naps! When I am researching documents in a courthouse I take her along and lots of people don't even notice her! So far, she has been welcomed to every one I have taken her to. The old tote bag, I picked up at Lambert Airport in St. Louis for about $10 and it has jungle animals on the outside! Maybe that's why Toto loves it!! :D

Answer:
Hahahaha! Turn your Yorkie into a bag! That is hilarious that they have invented that little bag for smaller dogs.
